Royston Maldoom
"Rite of Spring"
Royston Maldoom recreated his choreography to "The Rite of Spring" (Le Sacre du Printemps) for 120 elementary, medium and high school students from upper Manhatten. The music was played live by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Sir Simon Rattle, invited by Carnegie Hall. The German choreographers Volker Eisenach and Anja Müller supported Royston Maldoom as artistic team, responsible for the lightning was long-time lightning designer Peter Ayers, London. This project as well as other performances by the Berlin Philharmoniker took place in the context of the “Berlin Residency” in New York, which involved numerous events throughout the year 2007. The two performances were presented in the United Palace Theatre in Upper Manhatten.
